emotional design..why we love(hate everday thing)

Emotional design authored by Donald Norman explores the main issues is that emotions have an important role in the human ability to understand the world, and how they learn something new. For example: pleasant aesthetic objects appear to the user to be more effective, according to their sensual appeal. This is because of the connection consumers feel for an object that appeals to him, because the formation of emotional connection with object.

Norman's approach is based on the classic ABC model of attitude. However, he changed the concept is suitable for application in the design. Three dimensions has a new name (the visceral, behavioral, and reflecting) and some new content. In the book, Norman indicates that the design of the most visible objects in three levels (dimensions). Therefore, good design should be given attention by all three levels.Design the front cover emotional displays Philippe Starck Juicy Salif, industrial design icon that indicates Norman as "details temptation" and the manifestation of his thesis.

Norman say that,I have a collection of teapots. One was invented by the French artist Jacques Carelman for coffee, not tea, not that I can tell the difference. "Coffeepot for masochists" is what he called it, and it is quite unusable, for the handle is on the same side as the spout. It appears on the cover of "The Design of Everyday Things" (Norman, 1988). Mine is an imitation. Another was designed by Michael Graves — no, not the famous pot with the bird but a lesser-known one called Nanna, a teapot so ugly that it is appealing. Yet another is the tilting pot made by the German firm Ronnefeldt that I discovered while enjoying high tea at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago.

The Carelman pot is, by intent, impossible to use. The Nanna teapot looks clumsy, but actually works rather well. The tilting pot is made with deep consideration of the stages of tea brewing: place the tea leaves on the interior shelf and lay the pot on its back while the leaves steep. Then, as the brew approaches the desired strength, tip the pot up to a tilt, partially covering the tea leaves. When the tea is ready, stand the pot upright, so that the leaves are out of the liquid, preventing the tea from becoming bitter. And finally, when the teapot is empty, remove the cover, signaling the waiter that more hot water would be welcome.

We can not believe that our independent judgment to the beauty. Freedom is also part of the beauty and the political people have warned about it. In conclude, mostly this book explain about the basic tools of emotional design. Attractive things do work better. Attractiveness produces positive emotions, causing mental processes to be more creative, more tolerant of minor difficulties. The three levels of processing lead to three corresponding forms of design, the visceral, behavioural and reflective. Each plays a critical role in human behaviour, each equally critical role in design, marketing and use of product.
